Shades of Green

Green is not usually my colour. I mean, occasionally I venture into the green side of teal, and I have a few forest green items in my wardrobe, but there is a serious lack of green compared to the other colours of the rainbow.

Hottest day of the year

This dress is quickly becoming a summer favourite! I picked this up from Old Navy a little while ago and altered it to fit me properly - and on the hottest weekend of the summer so far it was a cool and perfect dress to wear.

Mermaid Inspired & Link up

I will fully admit that my outfit today was inspired by how my hair re-do turned out. My Mom came by and helped me re-dye the blue in my hair and I'm kind of loving how the different shades of blue and teal all mixed together. It's like mermaid hair! I kind of love it.

Complimentary

There's just something about using complimentary colours in an outfit. Nothing quite speaks to my psyche like rich complimentary colours.

OTK Boots

So where do you stand on over the knee boots? I'll admit, there are times when I put them on that I think they're a little bit.... um... "Pretty Woman" shall we say? I never, EVER wear them with just nylons underneath and a skirt. Tights, maybe. Leggings, yes. Jeans, most often. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE these boots. I have them in black and brown and they get a lot of wear... but it does make me feel a little questionable when I wear them up over the knee rather than folded down.

Velvet Crush

I love this jacket. I'm fairly sure it's not 'fashionable' anymore, but I'm also fairly sure that I just don't care.

 

Rompin' Around

Is it weird to say that I've wanted a romper for years? Maybe. But since they came back into fashion this year rompers, jumpsuits, onesies, whatever you want to call them - are a great boon to mamas who want to be fashionable but are looking for something easy to wear.

This was actually a birthday gift from my younger (and much more fashionable) sister and I was totally excited when it fit like a dream. It's got a great funky print, a flattering v-neckline and nice wide shoulders so that I can wear a proper bra but don't need to wear a cardigan or jacket to cover up bra-straps.

I wore this to a baby shower for one of my life-long friends who is having her first baby in November and it was perfect for hanging out, watching her open gifts, drinking tea and eating treats!

Ladies - if you don't have a romper or a jumpsuit - I recommend you pick one up. I can wear this like this for now, but I'm looking forward to wearing it with a blazer and some heels or even tall boots for the winter.

Back to School Shopping - a shorts story

Back to School Shopping.

Oh, the humanity!

The backpacks, the lunchbags, the pencil cases, the stuff stuff stuff... and our kids are only in JK and Grade 1 - and they don't even need any of that stuff (try telling them that).  So thankfully (thankfully?) our Back to School shopping is really only grocery - stocking up on things like juice boxes and lunchmeat and snacks for recesses. Of course - all those individually wrapped, correctly marked 'nut-free' snacks aren't exactly cheap. Thank goodness I'm pushy, handy with a pen and like bulk barn and sandwich bags. But I digress.

We were still at my in-laws this morning, so I was only able to dress from what I packed, but this outfit was comfortable for a day of hanging out, travelling back across the city, and then shopping with the hubs and the kiddos, making dinner and hanging out before wrangling our monsters into bed. You've seen these eyelet shorts and this gingham shirt before, though not together - I quite like it! It's like a very subtle print mixing type of feel.

Chambray and Floral

Sometimes when it's grey and rainy outside I like to wear the brightest possible colours. It sort of acts as a pick-me-up when the weather is crummy. This chambray shirt was the first one I ever picked up (and now I have 3 in various washes and sleeve lengths) and started my love for this amazing neutral.  To address something really quickly: chambray is not denim. It is denim-like. It comes in washes (like denim) and has a kind of blue, brushed cotton feel... but it is NOT a denim shirt. It's much lighter and more wearable. So if you're looking for a chambray, look for something that has a little bit of texture or weave to the fabric, but still flows and moves nicely. A good chambray can act as a neutral with basically any colour, but is more casual than a white button down, can also act as a great neutral layer. Okay - enough chambray talk.

I found this fabric on sale at a fabric store and I knew it was destined to be a skirt. I loved the slightly watercolour feel of the print and the colours are so bright and saturated. I paired it with a bright pink chemise and my chambray to hang out around my house, do laundry and walk the dog. It's cool, comfy and looks nice enough that if I were to go out later I wouldn't have to change.
