Unintentional Hiatus and Jump(er) back in

So sorry friends! I took an unintentional hiatus there for a couple of weeks. Truth? My kids are out of school and I thought I could just go on with my life (HA! I know, right?) and honestly I spent about 95% of the last 2 weeks in either running shorts or my swimsuit since we've spent as much time as possible near the lake!

Jump in

I love this jumpsuit (romper, onesie, whatever you want to call it) and am so glad that print jumpsuits are still in style this year.

Summer dress, Winter Weather

I love being able to translate summer pieces into winter wear. It can be tough, and I have a few rules in order to make sure it works.

Sweat-skirt

I've finally worked myself up to wearing a graphic tee with a skirt. I just couldn't go all the way to fancy skirt with graphic tee though - so in my sewing this week I decided to use up some of this super-soft grey sweat-shirt knit material. I thought about doing a classic pencil skirt shape but when with a slight a-line, paper-bag waist, mild hi/low hem instead. Wow - that was a complicated description for a comfy grey skirt.

InVested

 I just can't get over how much I love this vest. I'm really looking forward to wearing it throughout the rest of the fall and winter just adding it as another layer in my fall/winter wardrobe.

Graphic top & skinny jeans

I haven't worn this top in ages, but I felt like wearing something funky and fun when we went to my sister & brother-in-law's house to celebrate his 30th birthday. Hanging out with my family usually means lots of laughs and eating good food, so whatever you wear needs to be super comfortable, but I still wanted to look 'dressed' rather than going over in my sweatpants.

Graphic Shift dress

Sometimes when you're thrifting something just practically jumps off the rack and says "Me! Me!" - this shift dress did just that. To be honest, on the hangar it's basically shapeless and I was sure I'd have to do some tailoring to make it decent, but once I put it on I was pleasantly surprised! It does need something to nip in the waist, but a woven belt did just the trick and a pair of leggings underneath helps both with warding off any chill in the air, as well as with keeping my legs from rubbing together, lol!

Shifty

I bought this colourblock shift dress from Target last year - and admittedly I have only ever worn it the way it was styled in store. Which was... not. Literally I wore it with the belt it came with and plain shoes, or even occasionally orange shoes (which my boys gave me for Mother's day last year). But since it was only 7 degrees out this morning when I was getting dressed for church I knew I needed sleeves. I went through several iterations of outfit ideas before I finally settled on this bubble hem blazer I picked up off varage sale back in the spring. But since the blazer was black I decided to switch out the belt that came with the shift dress for a black belt, added some black bow pumps and silver jewellery. Voila!

I wore this to church to worship, lead in the music and sing a solo. I felt dressed but also very comfortable. I feel like I would have worn this outfit back when I was working at an office as well.
