Oversized

I bought this cardigan a few years ago from our local Giant Tiger. It was a "cheap and cheerful" add to my winter wardrobe and has held up amazingly well.

I love the oversized, slouchy cardigan trnd that I've been seeing all over - but as a plus-sized woman, I try to stay away from oversized articles of clothing. For a long time, plus sized women have been presented with oversized, shapeless, boxy options - which only serve to make you look bigger than you are, or hide your figure completely. Now - if you're into that, all power to ya - but I'm not into making myself look shapeless or larger than I am.

So I admit that I often shy away from wearing this cardigan because I don't want to look shapeless or sloppy.

I decided to try and balance out the slouchy/oversized aspects of the cardigan by wearing monochrome and very fitted pieces underneath. My sweetheart neckline tee from Torrid (which goes with everything and I need in like 10 more colours) and these faux leather - with almost a snakeskin like print - leggings that I picked up at one of our local thrift stores.

Some classic black pumps, gold jewellery, and a classic red lippie and I was feeling classy and festive for our annual friends Christmas party.

Do you like the oversized sweater trend? Do you think there are some trends that plus-sized women should avoid? Let me know in the comments!

  1. It's a great look on you. I always use the same trick when wearing an oversized item of pairing it with something fitted. Great find!

  2. Oh you sassy thing! You look amazing in this outfit. I think you balanced the slouchy cardigan perfectly with the leather leggings and sleek heels. I wonder if you could also belt the cardigan to give it more shape? Although I think it looks great as it is! But I also do love playing around with different styling options. Thanks for linking up with me, my friend.

  3. I have a few oversized sweaters and I like to do what you did here- make the rest more fitted. Love the black and red plaid. Very festive! Your leggings look great too, for a minute I thought they were coated jeans.

    1. These leggings were such a great find! They're not faux leather on the back, which I think is more comfortable - and I wish I'd taken a close up shot so you could see the texture on them.
