Every now and then I get just a teensy bit obsessed with vintage and retro styling. I love the pictures I have of my great-grandmothers in their cotton day-dresses, sensible tweeds, and good walkable dressy shoes. I love the hats (and I'm wearing a fascintor headband in homage to them) and the simple accessories.
Sometimes I feel like our fashion and culture are far too disposable - we don't make clothes to "last" like they did in my great-grandmothers' day. The quality that's evident in true vintage clothing is rarely found in the items that are in our stores today.
None of these pieces are actually vintage but evoke that vintage feeling. The styling of the midi-length skirt, a classic cable-knit sweater in a simple colour and shape, my definitely NOT vintage, but definitely vintage inspired oxford shooties and some small simple jewellery pieces - my sweet little gold owl earrings that were passed down from the hubs' grandmother and my fabrige egg necklace that the hubs' nana and papa brought back for me from St. Petersburg a few years ago make me feel like this outfit is from a different time. Simple, clean, lovely styling.

PS - Here's a pic of my great-grandparents, Jack & Edith. Under that extremely stylish fur coat is most definitely a print dress. And Great-Grandma is rocking that hat and those shoes!
I love your stylish outfit. I agree with you about the quality of clothes - I have a jacket from my great aunt & it's like 50 years old and still looks pristine.

You are so right, fashion and clothes these days are so quickly disposable - I love the inspiration of the elegance of the 30s and 40s you've taken. Thanks so much for linking to #AllAboutYou on Mama-andmore.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by - I do sometimes wish we had a little more elegance in our styling for today - but then the casual is also so much fun!
DeleteI love the vintage clothes. they are the best, the make the sewing. I am a fanatic about the old tailoring methods.
ReplyDeleteSo true Sherry - the first thing I look at when buying a piece of clothing is the seams inside. Overlocked? Lined? Great. But so much of the clothing today is made quick and cheap.
