Timeless

I've worn this dress several times already - I'm pretty sure I've even posted it here on the blog, and every time I think "I should style this differently" and then, I just.... don't.

The thing is, this shape and style of dress is basically timeless. The shirtdress was a wardrobe staple all the way back into the 40s, and while we may occasionally see a few changes (a longer skirt, and puffy sleeves in the 80s, shorter and straighter cut in the 90s etc) you can find an example of a shirtdress in basically every decade.

This one was Torrid's fandom line for Outlander (which is a book series and tv show, both of which I adore - but hello - do you watch? Roger's sad culottes in the last season drove me bonkers!) and I love this plaid because it's actually quite different than what we usually see in women's clothing.

And I love a good red/black plaid as much as the next girl, but the earthy green, grey and burgundy in this tartan is such a nice change.

Some grey hose and brown ankle boots and this whole outfit feels comfortable and put together.

Oh, and did I mention? This dress has pockets. What more can a girl ask for?

  1. I didn't know they did an Outlander line! How fun! I am a huge fan of the books and tv show (although I think Claire could have been cast a little differently because her looks are so different than the description). That dress is great on you!

    1. I too love the books - but I see the show as a separate thing, so aside from the costuming (Roger's Sad sad culottes, am I right?) and that Lizzie is like 3 feet too tall, lol (we call her TTL for too tall Lizzie when we watched this past season) I have thoroughly enjoyed the show so far.
Torrid occasionally carries some of my favourite fan-wear items. Like my 13th doctor coat and this dress. I "window" shop the Torrid website pretty regularly!

  3. I absolutely love this dress! How did I miss this at Torrid? I was just there looking for a plaid dress for fall. I love the colors in this. And it looks amazing on you! If you did want to style it differently but keep it the same, you could switch out the belt for a solid color. Or wear it open like a jacket. Anyway you style it though, I suspect will be insanely adorable!

    1. I'm actually hoping to style this dress open over another dress - so keep your eyes peeled for that! ;) Definitely looking into a few other options too.
