An Example to Live up to

I don't usually post on the weekend - but this year I wanted to take note of Mother's Day on the actual day.

My parents and I on my wedding day

Now - before I go on and someone sends me a message about how Mother's Day is a hyped up, Hallmark "holiday" like Valentine's and whatever else - let me just stop you there. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't - but this is what I think - Hallmark aside, is it a terrible idea to stop and take a day to honour the women in our lives who give us a good example to live up to?

I don't think so.

Mom and Dad love to laugh - a secret to a happy marriage!

My mother, Susan, is someone I really look up to. She is a great example of confidence, faith, strength, determination. My mom loves her children - myself and my sisters, and her grandchildren so incredibly deeply and fully: it's truly incredible to witness.

I try to live my life as a wife and a mother by following the example that my mother set for us. To be kind, and honest. To be strong and confident. To be educated and well-spoken. To love deeply and fully and with all of your heart.

She also has taught me how to laugh at myself. How to take risks and try new things: like mud-run obstacle courses, tap dancing, trampolining, high ropes courses and ziplining. That life can either be a a burden or an adventure - it is what you make of it.

What did you end up getting for your Mom? While this year I happened to find an awesome mug and book for my mom, I love giving her, and other family members picture prints as gifts. I love the look of these metal prints from Social Print. I'm thinking I may order some for my parent's upcoming birthdays! And I kind of love their magnets too!
Never too old to learn something new - Mom and I took an adult tap class together.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom! I love you more than words can say.

  1. What a wonderful tribute and testament to a wonderful woman and mom! I am blessed to say your mom, Susan, is not only my co-worker but someone I consider a friend. I look up to her and appreciate her advice and insight on issues, particularly motherhood and parenting. Happy Mother's Day to you both!
